Partnering to Expand Women’s Healthcare Access
The 2026 LHDCMC Golf Invitational unites sponsors and community leaders to expand access to high-quality women’s health services and support the development of a new Women’s Health Center in Prince George’s County.
Addressing a Critical Need
Prince George’s County faces significant health disparities, with residents experiencing higher rates of chronic conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, obesity, and diabetes compared to the average Maryland resident. These challenges are further compounded by barriers to healthcare access, socioeconomic factors, and a rapidly growing and diverse population.
Maternal health disparities remain particularly urgent. Infant mortality rates among minority populations are significantly higher, and many families face barriers to accessing consistent, high-quality maternal care.
Expanding access to specialized women’s health services is essential to improving outcomes for mothers, infants, and families throughout the community.
Expanding Women’s Health Services for the Future
Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center (LHDCMC) is embarking on a major transformation to expand access to high‑quality maternal, women’s, and surgical care—right here in Prince George’s County. With nearly one million residents in the county and 8 out of 10 women leaving the community to deliver their babies, this initiative fills a long‑standing gap in local healthcare services.
Our Maternal Health and Campus Modernization Initiative will build a new Women’s Health Pavilion, modernize critical clinical spaces and strengthen the campus for future generations.
Why This Matters
A third-party healthcare assessment identified obstetrics and general surgery as leading health priorities for Prince George’s County residents.
Access to high-quality, accessible healthcare improves lives and strengthens our community. This initiative ensures families can receive comprehensive, compassionate care close to home.
This initiative is guided by four key priorities:
- Expanding access to specialized women’s health services
- Providing high-quality prenatal and maternal care
- Supporting maternal nutrition and wellness
- Increasing access to experienced physicians and care teams
Together, these efforts will help reduce disparities, improve maternal and infant outcomes, and ensure every patient receives the care they deserve.
Creating a New Home for Maternal Health
The initiative includes the construction of a three-story, 67,000-square-foot Women’s Health Pavilion, campus infrastructure upgrades, and modernization of core clinical and support areas.
The Women’s Health Pavilion will include:
- Private labor and delivery rooms
- Dedicated C-section operating rooms
- Midwife-supported birthing suites
- Postpartum and nursery units
- Level II Special Care Nursery
- Future shell space for expanded services
- Rooftop helipad with direct access to the Emergency Department
